Our pace football team (didn't you know we had one?!) recently entered the 'Five-a-cider' - a charitable football tournament set up by our friends at Merlin Housing. The event was in aid of the Tom Hunt trust, a charity that supports teenage cancer sufferers. Never ones to resist a challenge, our team jumped at the chance to join in, and with such a worthwhile charity to support, there was no question we'd be taking part.
So, Friday night saw our team arrive at The Goals Soccer Centre, Wise Campus in Stoke Gifford, in trepidation but raring to go! In our corporate football kit (complete with new logo on our shirts). We were unbeaten in our qualifying group and finished top of the table. We won our respective quarter and semi finals in some fashion with Tom and Allan leading the goal scoring!
And then we found ourselves in the final, with none-other than the Merlin Housing team! We played our best, but sadly came second to the ultimate winners - the final score was 3-1. Some might say it was a politically correct result, we'd say the best team won!
We had a brilliant evening, and enjoyed meeting everyone who took part. Thanks again to Merlin for the invitation, we wouldn't have missed it for anything - despite our sore legs and bruised knees! When's the next one?!
The photo shows our (nearly) winning team: from left to right, top row: Tom Sharp, George Poole, Ben Pavey, bottom row Allan Finnie, Jamie Dimond and Steve Britton.
